Creating a welcoming Community space for All

A community-led initiative for transforming Spaldwick's church into a vibrant hub for connection, creativity & wellbeing.

Welcome to spaldwick Common Ground

Spaldwick Common Ground is a new community charity based in Spaldwick. While the community space will operate from the village church building, it is fully independent of the Church and is working to transform the space into a vibrant, inclusive venue for community events, activities, and celebrations.

We plan to offer a unique community hub and event space in the heart of Spaldwick. As an independent charity, we aim to provide inclusive, accessible opportunities for residents of Spaldwick and the surrounding community to connect, host events, and enjoy village life.

Whether you're looking for a place to gather, perform, learn, or celebrate — our space will be there for the Spaldwick community.

Our vision

Our vision is to create a welcoming community space in Spaldwick where everyone can come together for events, work, activities, workshops and celebrations.

Our Mission

We're embarking on a long-term transformation, leasing the church building for 99 years to create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive space for all Villagers and beyond.

Spaldwick Common Ground has been established as a Charitable Organisation to oversee the initiative and will be responsible for the fund raising, redevelopment, management and running of the facility to ensure the space thrives.

The new design and layout will lend itself perfectly to function as a venue for hire and space that can serve in similar function to a village hall.

Take a closer look at the proposed floor plans and project timeline.

Floorplans

A proposed floor plan showing the church with pews removed and dynamic, flexible seating/layout options.

The proposed redevelopment work will  see the removal of the current church pews, opening up the floorspace for more dynamic use, the introduction of toilet facilities, including accessible toilets, a modern servery and mezzanine floor.

The baptismal font and alter will remain, preserving the history of the building and ensuring that it's available for ceremonial use when the need arises. Changes to the vestry include upgrading it to a more modern and functional area while creating space for a dedicated meeting room that can be used by the Community

Project timeline

We know this will be a multi-year project and require significant funding to come to fruition. The Trustees will spend the majority of 2025 working on fundraising initiatives and beginning to scope out the redevelopment works. In parrallel we will continue to work with The Church of England to secure the 99 year lease so that the redevelopment works can be commissioned.

We have set an ambitious goal to be able to start offering the space to the community and scheduling some organised events during the course of 2026 with the intention to complete the redevelopment and launch the space during 2027.
